About CEEDO

Born from Community,
Driven by Purpose

Community Empowerment Emergency and Development Organization (CEEDO) was established in 2021 in Ethiopia, with its operational base in Dolo Ado. Founded on the initiative of agro-pastoralist youth, women's groups, and scholars, CEEDO focuses on the recurring needs essential for community development and recovery from natural calamities.

The founders shared a common concern about the cyclical droughts, floods, conflict-induced displacement, and chronic poverty that repeatedly eroded the coping capacity of pastoralist and agro-pastoralist households. Rather than waiting for external actors to respond, they chose to organize themselves into a structured body capable of mobilizing local knowledge and driving locally owned development.

CEEDO was officially registered by the Agency for Civil Society Organizations in November 2025, under registration number 7899. Since then, it has grown from a locally rooted initiative into an organization with an expanding footprint across the Somali, Afar, Oromia, and South Ethiopia Regional States.
